Death is not the End

My Granddaddy passed away yesterday.  He is not in pain anymore, thank goodness.  I got to talk to him about a week before he quit responding, so that was some precious time that I'm so thankful for.  Death isn't the worst thing.  The worst thing is not knowing where someone will spend eternity.  I know he's in heaven, and that makes all the difference in the world.

I won't be on much this week as we prepare for the funeral and support my grandmother.

My Granddaddy

My Granddaddy is dying of cancer.  Instead of focusing on the negative, I want to remember the good things.

Here are a few things that come to mind when I think of my Granddaddy:

History channel lover.

Joke teller.

Loves the outside.

Loves Reba MacIntyre. :)

He's spoiled by Memaw's home cooking.

Loves his grandkids and great grandkids.  Seriously, he is always telling people about us, and always wants to know what's going on in our lives. Some people aren't fortunate enough to have people that care about them, so I'm very thankful for that.

Has had the opportunity to travel the world with my Memaw.  They always brought each grandkid something back, and those things are very special to me.

This is just something I needed to do.  Writing is very therapeutic for me, so it helps to be able to release my emotions. I also want Mason to know Granddaddy and the only thing he will have is stories and pictures. Even though I'm not doing Memories Rewind weekly right now, I may write some about my family when the mood strikes.

I've visited with my Granddaddy a lot these past few weeks, and I'm so grateful for the time I have with him. I'm also glad that I've been able to go visit my grandparents more this past year because my health is better than it was a few years ago.

Hug your loved your loved ones a little tighter today and always find ways to make memories.

What my Handwriting says about Me

I found a handwriting analysis quiz awhile back, so I had to take it. :)

Here are the directions: On a piece of unlined paper, write the following paragraph using at least two lines:

'Well!' thought Alice to herself, 'after such a fall as this, I shall think nothing of tumbling down stairs! How brave they'll all think me at home! Why, I wouldn't say anything about it, even if I fell off the top of the house!' (Which was very likely true.)

Alice's adventures in wonderland
Lewis Carroll

Here's a picture of my handwriting:

Now for the fun part!

1. Your letters slope,

Straight up and down - indicates that you are a person with a strong need for contact.

2. The letters in your words are,

Partially connected - indicates that you are a shy, idealistic person who does not find it easy to have relationships.

3. The spaces between your words are,

Narrow - indicates that you are a talkative person, maybe even a busybody!

4. How close together are your lines of writing?

Apart far enough that letters do not touch - indicates that you enjoy social interactions and are talkative.

5. What color ink did you choose?

Blue black - indicates that you are rational and conservative. You adhere to conventions and traditions.

6. How large was your capital I in the sample?

Larger than the other capital letters - indicates that you are a person with a high opinion of yourself, or who wants others to think that you do.

7. What do your t bars look like?

Cross the 't' more or less in the middle - indicates that you are not very original but quite responsible.

8. Your writing slopes,

Downward - indicates that you are steadfast, purposeful, and possibly aloof.

9. Which takes the most space vertically in a line of your writing?

The middle zone letters - indicates that you are a materialist, and prone to exaggeration.

10. How much pressure does your writing show?

Firm and even - indicates that you are a person of strong but rigid will, obstinate but powerful.

This was interesting. Some of it was right on, while others were definitely not. What does your handwriting say about you?

A not so popular Post

This won't be a popular post for everyone, and that's okay. You don't have to agree with me. This is just my opinion.

I don't know why people cuss, but I've come up with a few explanations.

  • Is it because they want to fit in with other people(specifically when they're in high school)?

  • Do they want attention?

  • Is it for the shock value of spewing a bunch of expletives?

I don't know the answer, but I have never cared for it because I had to grow up around it. A friend of mine asked why people cussed, and I responded quite differently than everyone else.

I said people who cuss show they have a limited vocabulary. Think about it. If you can only respond to people's statements with 5 or 6 words, you have a limited vocabulary. In my opinion, people who cuss every other breath are not good communicators. I say this because to communicate, you have to be able to explain your thoughts in a way that everyone can understand. Adding in expletives after every other word is not going to make your thoughts any clearer. If it sounds dumb without cuss words, just imagine how foolish you look when your statement is filled with cuss words. This has just been something that has been on my mind. I just think people can do better.

Any thoughts?

Get Some Perspective

*This was published in my church's weekly publication called The Celebration.

Do you have the right perspective?

Can you imagine what kind of power we would have in our lives if we would step back from our problems and look at them from God’s perspective instead of our own? If we really sought His view of things, we wouldn’t be so worried about gas prices, the economy, and all the other woes of society.

Let’s face it, we usually can't see God's picture for our lives because we are drowning in our own issues. Feelings of self-pity, anger, resentment, unforgiveness, jealousy, fear and pride all cloud our vision. These things cause us to be blind to His plan for our lives. They are pebbles in our path, but the fear that comes with not seeing clearly causes those pebbles to look like huge rocks to us. If we saw those things the way God sees them, those pebbles would not cause us to take a second glance. I don’t know about you, but I've had to ask God to remove the blinders from my eyes lately so that I can see clearly. I don’t’ want to go through my life with vision blurred by my own inadequacies when I should be looking through the eyes of His grace.

What perspective do you have?

To my Nephew

As my nephew is sleeping peacefully, I can't help but think of all that I want for him in his life. This song by Rascal Flatts sums up my thoughts perfectly.

"My Wish" by Rascal Flatts

I hope that the days come easy and the moments pass slow,
And each road leads you where you want to go,
And if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose,
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you.
And if one door opens to another door closed,
I hope you keep on walkin' till you find the window,
If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile,

But more than anything, more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.

I hope you never look back, but ya never forget,
All the ones who love you, in the place you left,
I hope you always forgive, and you never regret,
And you help somebody every chance you get,
Oh, you find God's grace, in every mistake,
And you always give more than you take.

But more than anything, yeah, and more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.

This is my wish
I hope you know somebody loves you
May all your dreams stay big
