I'm going to make a list of things I've observed this week and my thoughts about them.
- I saw people being greedy. There was more than enough to go around, but several people were just hogging it for themselves. When I saw this, I thought, "Really? It is not that serious. It's not the end of the world if you don't get what you want." It showed me that we still have a long way to go towards sharing things with others.
- I saw kindness in action. These people didn't just say they cared. They showed it with their actions. They weren't trying to be kind to show off for people because no one else was around. No one saw his or her genuine hearts but the ones who needed it.
- I saw relationships deepen. Seeing an old friend and catching up like no time had passed was great.
- I saw a glimpse of a real person - not their facade. They let their guard down and let me see a little bit of who they are and what they deal with on a regular basis.
- I saw hurting people. The hurt consumed their thoughts, but they encouraged by other people who had been in their shoes.
- I saw joy on children's faces.
- I saw needs met in an unexpected way. Things work out when you least expect it.
- I saw dreams that once seemed impossible come within reach.
- I saw someone enjoy the simple pleasures of life. They didn't rush. They took in the sights and sounds while savoring the moment.
- I saw three world changers. I saw their vision and heard their hearts. They don't just talk about change, they are doing something to cause change in many people's lives. They are doing this without pay, too. Their mission is all about helping kids who are in very unfortunate situations. They are making the world a better place. One meal at a time. One hug at a time. One visit at a time.
- I saw the parallel between what we have in the United States and what kids in other nations have. What we consider problems are not really problems. We live a good life.
- I saw a person who has no clue what it is like to live in a wheelchair.
- I saw and continue to see the value of those around me. I am more appreciative of the people in my life and all they have to offer.
- I saw the beauty of nature up close. Usually I am limited on what I can do outdoors because lots of places are not handicap accessible.
- I saw hard work pay off.
- I saw people doing something to help others. So many people make excuses about why they can't do something. This group of people could have made excuses. Instead, they worked together to help other people. At first I didn't think much of it. I laughed and said, "Why are they doing that? Can't people just walk over there?"
-
My mom reminded me that at least they were doing something. Then I remembered, some people may have a hard time walking and the ride these people gave would make their day a lot easier. We all forget the little gestures people make to lend a hand often make a big difference.
