I've made it to the end of the first week! Yay! Today's prompt is about writing something I wish someone would have told me years ago.
I have done something similar to that, so I am going to write this to my niece and nephews.
Dear Kids,
You are growing up into great little people right before my eyes. I remember waiting to hear your first words and now you have the funniest conversations with me. No, MaKensie, you don't talk yet, but you make sure your voice is heard!
If I could tell you anything, I would tell you to slow down. Do not worry so much about being busy. Enjoy every second of those sword fights. Take every chance you get to kick back and watch a movie.
You are not old enough for phones yet, but please do not get too caught up in technology. Do not let the phone become your best friend. It can't replace meaningful conversations with those you love. Actually, it can replace people, but only if you let it. Don't let it. You will regret it later.
Be kind. Mason, as we were playing delivery trucks last night, you said something that touched my heart. "I'm going to back this trailer up so it's easy for you to get to, Auntie. Helping you is the best."
Thank you, Mason. That small gesture made my heart swell with love because you took time to think of me. People don't always think of others, whether they are in a wheelchair or not. I hope you always think helping others is the best because that will bring you more joy and satisfaction than a big paycheck EVER will.
Be original. This is just a big word for being yourself. Don't let anyone put your fire out. If someone else is going left, go right. Carve your own path in the world. Don't be afraid to take chances. If everyone else is quiet, yell. This is more a figure of speech, but you will understand what I mean when you are older.
Bryson, never lose your spunk. You are a go-getter! You love life, and it shows. I feel like I've won a million dollars when I can get you to smile. I mean really smile. These days, a real smile from you comes when "Piderman" is turned on. You love Spiderman!
Dream big. All of you. Mason, you said last night that you would drive a big rig for someone else "after you explore the world." Explore all you can, buddy. Take in all the sights and sounds this great big world has.
MaKensie, never forget your strength. You are little right now, but one day you will be a young woman. Women see the world through different eyes. Learn to love yourself and all of the things that make you - YOU. It doesn't matter if you are short or tall. It is what's inside that makes all the difference. Be patient with yourself as you go through changes. Greatness doesn't happen overnight. It happens with all the little steps you take.
Another thing. Don't be too hard on yourself. I've caused myself a lot of heartache and sleepless nights because I thought I didn't measure up. I convinced myself I wasn't good enough. Don't waste time believing those lies. You are good enough. Know that even on your worst day, someone loves you. I love you. I will always be here to support you. Don't you ever forget that.
All my love,
Auntie
