Turning the Page on Physical Therapy

Sometimes you write just for therapy. Today is one of those days. I found out last week that my physical therapist of seven years is leaving. I have mixed emotions about it for sure.

He was my first male physical therapist and I didn't know how to feel about it. I was used to women. Over time, I began to realize he wasn't so bad. His encouragement on some rough days was a welcome relief from the pain.

Now, instead of seeing him once a week, my mom will become my physical therapist. He has given me the tools to get better, so I know that we can do this together. I'm not stopping where I'm at right now. This is just a transition period.

He has made a difference in my life, and my life is richer because he was in it. I told him that there are going to be people at his new job that need him to help them just like I did. The days of juggling school and physical therapy are over, but I will still have his friendship. That is worth more than any physical therapy appointment.

Sorry that you are losing this person as part of your weekly being, but so glad that he left his mark on you! I hope that the transition is a smooth one for you.

I know that it’s difficult to be apart from someone who has become constant in your life. But, at least, you have your mom beside you to help you continue your therapy. Are you still keeping in touch with him? I do hope that you are now living a better life in spite of him leaving. =)
