One Voice


I voted today. I wasn't planning to post, but I've changed my mind. Each one of us has a voice, and if we don't voice our opinions, that voice will eventually be silenced. It will be drowned out by what the media says and what others say. [I masked my face because when I vote, my skin color or gender doesn't matter. I'm a person with a voice wanting to be heard in a sea of people.]
You have to know what you believe. If you know what you believe, no one else can come in and sway you. Find your voice.

Each time you speak up, it gets easier. You become more confident in yourself. I left the poll with a smile on my face because regardless of the outcome, I was heard. This quote sums up things perfectly, "I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do." -Edward Everett Hale

We may not have a law degree that permits us to participate in Senate hearings, but each of us has the right to vote. Don't let today's elections end as just another day. Make up your mind that you are going to make a difference. What difference am I speaking of, you ask? I'm talking about a difference for your community, your children, but most of all a difference for yourself.
Use your voice.

Memories Rewind: Granny’s Clothesline

I watched as Granny hung each garment on the clothesline. The sun was shining so bright I had to squint my eyes. Papa's old flannel shirts flapped in the breeze beside Granny's flowered house coats. There was something magical about that clothesline to me. I was intrigued by the simpleness of it. No whirring of the dryer. The clothes became drier as the day wore on. The next day, Granny would take her brown clothes basket to gather the clothes. One by one, she slipped the clothes pins off. It was almost as if she had her own rhythm. I stopped at the sliding glass door, lost in my own thoughts. That old clothesline had been in the backyard for years. The rough hewn posts were sturdy and solid. They told their own story, marked by the pelting rain and other elements. I hurried inside as Granny came in. I grabbed a shirt and pressed it to my face. Memories Rewind: Playhouse Parties

 Something's up with the spacing today. I was over a C's house for a sleepover filled with laughs, mischief, and games. We still had a few daylight hours to burn, and we just couldn't waste away a beautiful day in the house. " Whatcha wanna do?" C asked. I spotted the bright pink doll house out of the corner of my eye. Let's play house! We arranged the miniature table and chairs just so. The table cloth was laid aside because this was a casual affair. Mr. Teddy and all of C's dollies were anticipating the fabulous feast put on by the two princesses. "What shall we make?" we pondered. It had to be special. Mud pies were a favorite of the furry forest animals. I scooped up mounds of mud as C poured the water in.
