Sweet Summertime


Summer time is like no other. While people still have to work, there is a relaxed atmosphere. Everyone savors those cool breezes that come at dusk.

Kids dream up games and spend almost every waking moment playing as the sun envelops them with its warmth. Laughter is more crisp. Gardens abound with fresh vegetables.

Gone are the days of monotonous school work. Calenders are quickly filled up with family barbecues, birthdays, and lake time.

Summer is measured in laughs instead of seconds on a clock. Sometimes I wish I could bottle up that carefree feeling and reopen it when things become hard.

Living rooms are turned into imaginary forts complete with a table and chairs.

In the South, we fall asleep to the chirp of crickets and birds. The lake offers fun in the sun while cooling off. Kids beg parents to bring out the water slides and sprinklers. I don't know about you but a slip-n-slide is a must in the South. Adults compete against the kids to see who can go the farthest. Some end up with bruises and scrapes, while others have bruised egos.

Yeah, summer is a special time. There are so many memories from summers in the past I have that I can almost see and hear and feel. Recently, however, the summers haven't felt quite as special as they did when I was younger...it's strange.

Advocating for Another: Inside the Fishbowl

Since I talked about my community and some things that make me and my readers unique yesterday, I thought I would branch out and do one of the bonus prompts, which says to tell what my life is like to someone looking on the outside then describe it from the inside. On the outside, I look like a stylish young woman busy attending college classes and helping out at my church all while in a wheelchair. Some people have mistakenly thought I have an easy life because I have people helping me do things, get a little extra time to do tasks, and so on. I have a beside commode because I'm not quite strong enough --yet--  to walk to the bathroom and sit down without help. Memories Rewind: Playhouse Parties

 Something's up with the spacing today. I was over a C's house for a sleepover filled with laughs, mischief, and games. We still had a few daylight hours to burn, and we just couldn't waste away a beautiful day in the house. " Whatcha wanna do?" C asked. I spotted the bright pink doll house out of the corner of my eye. Let's play house! We arranged the miniature table and chairs just so. The table cloth was laid aside because this was a casual affair. Mr. Teddy and all of C's dollies were anticipating the fabulous feast put on by the two princesses. "What shall we make?" we pondered. It had to be special. Mud pies were a favorite of the furry forest animals. I scooped up mounds of mud as C poured the water in.
