Being Honest

Over the past few months I have been doing some serious thinking about this blog. I first started this blog so that I could keep writing without hurting my back by bending over to write in my journal.

One thing I know is it's not good to compare your blog to other blogs. Why? You are not everyone else. You are uniquely you. If you say something, own it. Don't be ashamed of your beliefs. Be yourself, and don't waste time trying to be the next big blog. Just write. I've found when you write from the heart, no one can ever surpass you in followers, comments, etc. I know you're thinking, "What did she just say?" as you process that last sentence. Yep, that's right. When you fully embrace you and stop worrying about pleasing others or having the coolest giveaways, you will be overcome by a sense of peace. Peace comes when you quit putting unnecessary pressure on yourself to be someone you're not.

At the end of the day, I write for me. The day this blog becomes a fluffy feel good blog is the day it will be shut down. I've been constantly reevaluating things. My main priority is making sure that I'm doing what God wants me to do and not what I want to do. If my follower count goes to 0 tomorrow, that's OK. I never want to post something just for the sake of having a post that day. Anyone can do that. If you like my blog, great! I know that my self worth doesn't come from comments. Doing something out of habit means you lose that spark of creativity that you once had when you blogged (or wrote) something when you loved doing it.

I had thought about removing the follower's widget from my sidebar. I decided against it though because I don't want to deny someone the opportunity to connect with other bloggers on my page. It's good to look for inspiration in other blogs, but be careful not to let it consume you. As long as my motives are right concerning the different elements on my blog, it's OK to have comments and followers.

It just helps me to take a hard look at things every once and a while, you know? What things do you need to rethink in your life?

P.S. I am experimenting a little by turning off the word verification comments. I have several dyslexic friends, so I hope this removes a little of the headache for them!

I would like to think we all think about this from time to time. It's hard not to look at other blogs and compare your life the theirs. But some words on a page is just that, not the whole story. While we are a society of "more" and always looking for it, sometimes I believe less is better. I am a huge blog reader, it gives me great inspiration to write, to be a better mate or any of my "titles" in general. I love the ideas of it, sometimes it can just be too much and I need to step back a bit. But the best blogging includes honesty, that's why I love yours-it's real! And the more different we are than other blogs, the better, right!?

My thoughts exactly, Meg. I couldn't have said it any better myself.

Kudos for writing for you. That was the original point of blogging--now everyone wants to make a million dollars or have a million followers or get a cookbook deal...

Great post. What I am rethinking at this time is who I am and not what other ppl think I should be. Be proud of you are. Anyone can conform to the image of someone else. I am beginning to like the real me.

I fully agree. Many of us start out truly writing from the heart, and from our own experiences, and somewhere down the line, once we've made "blog friends", it kind of becomes high school all over again, where you forget that its ok to be an individual, and instead you are vying to fit in.

Its wonderful that you recognize how some use their ability to blog and how you want to use your ability to blog... and thanks for reminding me to be uniquely me.

aww i hope and pray that you never shut down your site, i love coming here and reading what is new with you, i know it is easy to get caught up in bloggy stuff but as you said when you write from your heart that is all that is important. i love to come and read what you are writing and feeling and i just imagine that your words are similar to what Hadley is feeling and wished she could only have a place to put down her thoughts and feelings. god bless!!
sending hugs,
shelley :)
